Our client is a global organisation whose communications technology platform supports a broad ecosystem of services and applications across its enterprise technology landscape. The team manages an extensive portfolio of public websites and an internal digital workplace, delivering secure, reliable, and high-quality digital experiences for colleagues and customers worldwide.
Role overview
As an Azure DevOps Engineer, you’ll engineer and operate secure, resilient Azure platform capabilities for our products using Infrastructure as Code and automated delivery practices. You’ll partner closely with platform engineering, application pods, security, and operations to deliver repeatable patterns, compliant cloud services, and reliable CI/CD pipelines that enable teams to ship safely and quickly.
Key responsibilities
- Engineer Azure foundation platform solutions using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), primarily Terraform.
- Execute the functional pattern lifecycle: design, document, develop, maintain, and evolve a reusable code/pattern library.
- Integrate, configure, deploy, and manage centrally provided common cloud services (e.g., IAM, networking, monitoring, operating systems, containers).
- Manage Azure connectivity and networking, including ExpressRoute, DNS, IP allocation, traffic routing, NSGs, and Azure Firewall.
- Implement centrally approved hardened operating system baselines for Linux and Windows environments.
- Ensure compliance with centrally defined security controls and standards.
- Ensure adherence to operational risk standards across network, firewall, OS, logging, monitoring, availability, resiliency, and recovery.
- Implement centrally provided patching requirements and support non-functional testing activities (e.g., performance, resilience, security).
- Maintain and update support and operational documentation, runbooks, and knowledge articles as required.
- Troubleshoot and resolve platform and pipeline issues efficiently, collaborating across teams to restore service and prevent recurrence.
Required qualifications and requirements
Essential
- Hands-on experience engineering Azure platform services using Terraform (or equivalent IaC), including modular, reusable code.
- Strong Azure networking experience: ExpressRoute, DNS, routing, NSGs, firewalls, and IP management.
- Experience integrating enterprise shared services (IAM, monitoring/logging, OS images).
- Proven capability building and supporting CI/CD pipelines and automated testing practices.
- Working knowledge of security and operational risk controls in regulated environments (logging/monitoring, patching, hardening, resiliency).
- Strong troubleshooting skills across cloud infrastructure, networking, and delivery pipelines.
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation (designs, runbooks, operational procedures).
Desirable
- Familiarity with SRE/operational excellence practices (SLIs/SLOs, incident management, post-incident reviews).
- Experience working with centrally governed cloud standards and control frameworks in large enterprises.
