Engineering Tech Lead (Java & React)
We are looking for an Engineering Tech Lead to join a technology team developing solutions for Risk & Compliance, including Model Risk Management and Operational Risk Management. This is a full stack position with a strong backend focus. You will combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership, designing, building and operating resilient Java/Spring services while contributing to React and TypeScript front-end delivery when required.
Key responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership, take ownership of delivery and support team members in their day-to-day work.
- Design, build, and support backend services and APIs using Java and Spring (Boot/Data/REST/Security).
- Create solution designs and supporting documentation, including architecture and UML diagrams.
- Deliver end-to-end features, including React + TypeScript UI work as needed.
- Implement microservices and micro-database patterns with clear API contracts.
- Build integrations using event-driven architecture.
- Develop workflow-driven capabilities using BPMN and integrate workflow components into services.
- Engineer for production readiness: logging, error handling, resilience, and observability.
- Develop and maintain batch processing workloads where applicable.
- Drive quality through automated unit/integration testing, code scanning, and remediation of findings.
- Containerise and deploy using Docker and Kubernetes, supporting cloud services development.
- Work in an Agile (Scrum) model using JIRA and documentation in Confluence/Wiki.
What we are looking for
- At least 2 years of proven technical team leadership experience, including delivery leadership, mentoring or technical ownership.
- 8+ years of enterprise application development with strong depth in backend engineering.
- Hands-on experience with microservices and micro-database architecture.
- Experience with event-driven systems.
- Expert in Java and Spring Framework (Boot/Data/REST/Security/Profiles).
- Front-end experience with ReactJS and TypeScript (able to contribute meaningfully; backend-led).
- API specification/documentation using Swagger / OpenAPI.
- Strong automated testing practice (e.g., JUnit, mocking frameworks, H2, HttpUnit or equivalent).
- Experience writing/supporting batch programs.
- Strong appreciation for logging and error handling in production systems.
- Hands-on with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Cloud services development experience.
- Experience using code scanning tools and resolving security/quality/standards findings.
- Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum teams using JIRA and Confluence/Wiki.
Nice to have
- Risk & Compliance domain knowledge, ideally Model Risk Management.
- Spring Integration and/or Spring Batch.
- WebSockets / SSE or binary protocols.
- Experience with workflow engines or libraries such as BPMN, Flowable, Activiti or Drools, as well as working knowledge of micro-frontends.
