Managing Director / Country Manager (f/m)

Our client is a fast-growing retail company operating in the optical industry. We are currently looking for an experienced Managing Director who will take full responsibility for business performance, operational excellence, and long-term market growth in Hungary.
This is a strategic leadership role for a results-driven executive who combines strong commercial acumen with hands-on operational management and people leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a multi-site operational structure, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and achievement of business targets across all locations
- Develop and execute operational and commercial strategies that support sustainable growth and strengthen market position
- Oversee field operations, monitor store performance, and support local teams in delivering business goals
- Take full ownership of the company’s P&L, driving profitability and long-term financial performance
- Manage annual budgeting processes for revenues and costs
- Analyse financial and operational data, track KPIs, and implement improvements based on insights
- Optimise internal processes to improve efficiency, customer experience, and commercial outcomes
- Build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships that support business development and brand reputation
- Work closely with shareholders / board members on strategic planning, reporting, and key business decisions
- Lead recruitment, development, and engagement of high-performing management and sales teams
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience managing multi-site or geographically dispersed retail operations
- Previous experience in a senior leadership role such as Managing Director, Operations Director, Country Manager, or similar
- Strong understanding of retail operations, sales management, and business growth strategies
- Solid experience managing full P&L responsibility and budgeting processes
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions
- Experience building and leading engaged, high-performing teams
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Entrepreneurial mindset, independence, and strong decision-making ability in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to travel across Hungary as required
- Fluent English language skills
Nice to Have
- Experience in fast-scaling organisations
- Background in retail, FMCG, or other high-volume customer-facing sectors
- Previous experience in the optical, eyewear, healthcare retail, or related industry
